Insta Milkshakes

Hi there! If you’re familiar with Instagram or Pinterest, then you’ve probably seen these milkshakes before. They’re extremely popular right now and mainly because they look good on pictures. Which was reason enough for me to try and make some of my own. (I’m actually really proud of the results. Not even kidding.)

So lets start with the recipe. I made a banana sprinkle milkshake (which is pink, I know, but it’s not strawberry) and I made an Oreo chocolate milkshake.

Banana sprinkle ingredients:

  • 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • Some milk
  • Banana
  • Sprinkles
  • White chocolate
  • (Chocolate) sticks
  • Whipped cream
  • Food coloring, blue and red

Oreo chocolate ingredients:

  • 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • Some milk
  • Oreo
  • White and dark chocolate
  • (Chocolate) sticks
  • whipped cream

First things first, start melting the chocolate. If you’re making both milkshakes you can melt the dark chocolate and the white chocolate. I personally think that the best way to do so is to melt the chocolate in a bowl above boiling water. In this way the chocolate won’t get burned so fast.

I covered my milk chocolate sticks in the white melted chocolate and topped it with some sprinkles. It just looked better on the banana sprinkle milkshake. For the Oreo milkshake I just let the chocolate stick as they were. If you have sticks without any chocolate you can use the same method to create your own chocolate sticks. Let them cool down for a bit so that the chocolate hardens again.

I dripped the white chocolate on the mason jar that was meant for the Oreo milkshake. I used some crushed Oreos as decoration. I let it harden in in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Then I also added the dark melted chocolate.

After that I added some blue food coloring to the white chocolate. Again, it’s all about the looks. It turned out to be more green than blue but I’m actually pretty happy with the color.

I dripped the green-looking chocolate on the other mason jar and I also let that one harden in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.

After that, I got started on the actual milkshake. For the Oreo one I added Oreos, 3 scoops of ice cream and some milk to the blender. When it was done I also put some extra chunks of Oreo in there. (Never too many Oreos). In the banana sprinkle one I put banana, 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, milk, sprinkles, some white chocolate and red food coloring.

Aaand.. voila! You only have to pour the milkshakes in the right jars and decorate them with the chocolate sticks, Oreos and sprinkles. Enjoy!
